Government AI Files

Making federal AI disclosures easier to explore.

Government AI Files — project cover

A collaborative research project examining U.S. federal AI transparency, with my contribution focused on redesigning the website’s front end for clearer interactions and a more coherent visual experience.

Research overview

Government AI Files accompanies the collaborative research project Triangulating Across U.S. Federal AI Transparency Regimes. The research examines three existing U.S. federal transparency regimes—System of Records Notices (SORNs), Information Collection Requests (ICRs), and the AI Use Case Inventory—and asks how well they, individually and together, describe government AI use.

Linking records across these sources provides a fuller picture than any one source alone, while also revealing gaps that limit public oversight. The project website offers an interface for exploring federal AI use cases through search, filters, and links to the original reporting fields.

My contribution

This was a collaborative project. My primary contribution was redesigning the website’s front end to make its interactions clearer and its visual presentation more cohesive. I focused on how people encounter and navigate the information, with the aim of making the research resource more approachable and easier to explore.
